Builder's Club works with the Kiwanis Club in improving our community. Builder's Club is like the Key Club at the high school. Some of the activities that the Builder's Club is involved in is Pennies for Patients, which raises money to help fight Breast Cancer. Builder's Club saves General Mills box tops.
Cardinal Yearbook - Sponsor: Chris Clawson
The yearbook staff plans and organizes a yearbook, which is sold by subscription at cost to the student body. The yearbook consists of individual picture of staff and students, as well as, group pictures of the various school organizations and activities. The yearbook has the entire school year, with delivery the following year.
Debate Club - Sponsor: Amy Freeze
The Mayo Debate Club founded by students Audrey Keller and Logan Graves, is new this year (2004). Members sharpen their powers of persuasion as they debate a proposal of their choice once a month after at least two weeks of research and prepare their case. Respect is fundamental to a successful debate, and the club follows Smith's Rules for Debate.
Geography Bowl - Sponsor: Nick Sanders, Jerry Allen, Michele Allen
Mayo Geography Bowl is made up 5 Mayo students from grades 6-8. The students work throughout the year to prepare for the Geography Bowl, which is in March. The bowl is held at Terre Haute, IN and each team plays 3 players at a time. The students must demonstrate knowledge in Geography, History, Economics, Government, and some in Science. Being a part of the Geography Bowl team is truly an awesome accomplishment.
History Club - Sponsor: Nick Sanders
History Club is made up of 8th Grade History students and its' purpose is to get the students interested in US History. History Club meets about twice a month during lunch where we discuss important historical events and time periods. During the meetings we usually watch a video and then discuss what happened and why. Occasionally, we will have an after school meeting where we listen to guest speakers who are knowledgeable in a certain area of history.
Math Club - Sponsor: Shana Bradfield
Math Club is made up of students from grades 6-8 that meet after school throughout the year, and they work on projects that deal with Math. Math Club allows students to not only learn about Math, but have fun with Math.

Redbird Rap - Sponsor: Nick Sanders
The Redbird Rap is Mayo's student-ran newspaper. The Redbird Rap is published monthly and has a variety of stories about Mayo Middle School. Examples of stories that appear in the newspaper is interviews of various Mayo teachers, the latest happenings at Mayo, a calendar of birthdays for the upcoming months. The coolest part of the Redbird Rap is that is completely student ran. The students write, type, edit, and publish the entire newspaper.
Rudy's Readers - Sponsor: Tobi Sanders, Michele Allen, Nick Sanders, Alison Wirth, Chris Clawson, Shana Bradfield
Rudy's Readers is a reading club for students designed to read both classic and award-winning novels. One book is read each quarter, and students attend lunch meetings to discuss the book before there is a large group meeting after the book has been completed. At the large meetings the students discuss the entire book, enjoy snacks, and participate in activities that goes with the novel.
A point system is based on attendance, participation, and successful completion of the Accelerated Reading tests determines which students are eligible for special events throughout the year.
Scholastic Bowl - Sponsor:Jane Sollars
Scholastic Bowl is similar to Jeopardy, but with teams. We have both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. Students compete in teams of five players that work together to defeat the other team. Students push a buzzer if they think they know the answer to a question from the moderator. Questions cover a variety of topics such as, school subjects, movies, sports, art, and television.
Student Council - Sponsor: Chris Clawson
The Student Council is the student governing body of the school. Students in each grade level/advisory class choose the class representatives, respectively. The class representatives elect the president, vice president, and secretary. The Student Council sponsors a number of projects and activities at school and in the community.
WHAM stands for "What's Happening at Mayo". WHAM-TV is a student ran production and does several different productions throughout the year. The most common production for WHAM is the morning announcements, which are done every morning. The announcements are a great way for students to find out about the important events going on at Mayo. WHAM-TV also broadcasts the basketball games here at Mayo. Those games can be copied to a DVD and sold to those who would like a copy of the game.
Bank at School - Sponsor: Staff
Bank at school is a process that students use to employ mathematics and mathematical concepts and practical applications. Students visit the bank to see first hand how things are done.
